Troubleshooting
Cannot Connect to Server
Fix connection issues when you cannot join your Cafora Minecraft server.
If you or your players cannot connect to your Minecraft server, use this guide to diagnose the issue.
Server-Side Checks
Is the Server Online?
- Check server status in the Pterodactyl Panel
- Look at the console for running status
- Try restarting the server
Correct Address?
- Verify the server address format
- If using a custom domain, check DNS configuration
- For SRV records, ensure the port is not required in the client
Minecraft Version Match
- Your client version must match or be compatible with the server version
- Check ViaVersion/ViaBackwards if using older clients with newer servers
Client-Side Checks
Common Error Messages
| Error | Meaning | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Connection Refused | Server not accepting connections | Check if server is online |
| Connection Timed Out | Network cannot reach server | Check address, firewall, DNS |
| Unknown Host | Address cannot be resolved | Verify the server address |
| Invalid Session | Minecraft authentication issue | Restart your Minecraft launcher |
| Outdated Client/Server | Version mismatch | Update client or server |
Firewall Issues
- Your local firewall may be blocking Minecraft
- Try a different network (mobile hotspot) to isolate the issue
- Check if your ISP blocks gaming ports
Origin IP Is Not the Entry Address
Connecting directly to the origin IP will always fail — Minecraft ports on the origin IP are dropped by design. Always connect with the server hostname. See Server IP.
